10/07/10Coming soon: INKUS (www.inkus.org) will be showing our prints at the Dunmow Gallery in January 2011, (18 High Street, CM6 1AG) and I will return there in April for a solo show of paintings and prints.
I am also now undertaking some sketches of Jazz musicians at Lussmanns restaurant in Bishops Stortford so they can build up a display for the venue. I also hope to embark on some biology based images for corporate display.....
..watch this space.
As for the rest of 2010; this brought the exciting prospect of being invited to participate in the 1st International Watercolour Competition, Marche d`Aqua, in Fabriano in Italy. The invitation came via `The Writing Desk` in Saffron Walden and works were executed on hand-made Fabriano paper. The opening exhibition on the 15th May was held in the beautiful town of Fabriano at the Museum of paper and watermarks. We were treated to demonstrations of paper making, an opening ceremony, a tour of the exhibition, a visit to a wonderful fresco gallery and were entertained by a superb jazz quintet. Works were also on show from the Royal Watercolour Society. The town was festooned with posters and banners advertising the event. Perfect .... apart from the torrential rain. We look forward to visiting the show as it tours Internationally and to returning to Fabriano.
May 1st was the Private View of works from `INKUS', the participants on the Curwen Print Study Centre certificate course. I showed work which included linocut, etching, screenprints and photo-screen. I have a level 3 certificate in advanced printing techniques awarded by Chloe Cheese and Stanley Jones MBE. I will be continuing to work with `Inkus` at the CPSC. We also have a show planned for January 2011 at the Dunmow Gallery, Great Dunmow.
The 2nd book published by Green Pebble, under the title `Artist in our Midst 2, East Anglia, A Selection of Work by Leading Contempory East Anglian Artists' was launched in July 2010 and in which my work is featured. Pages 86-87 if you would care to have a look. "The bold colours and graphic shapes in Tony's work attract immediate attention....", it says.
I had work at the Hills Road Art Exhibition, held this year in the Anglia Ruskin University and participated in the first Saffron Walden Open Studios over the week-end of the 19-20th June. I threw open my work space for scrutiny and enjoyed the company of many visitors and in being able to talk about my work and art in general (Newport News, No.74, Winter 2010). The SWOS may become an annual event, and next year I may also return to participating in Cambridge Open Studios.
I added an image, based on Saffron Walden, to the `batton` scroll of artworks which was being passed around towns participating in the Essex Summer of Art, before it left, at the end of the Saffron Walden Arts Festival, to the next destination.
I exhibited and sold work at the Streathall Art Show in August and the FECA (Fen Edge Community Association) show in November and curated 'Richard Bawden : Through the Door' a succesful selling exhibition of watercolours, lino-cuts and etchings from the reknown East Anglian artist held at the Fry Art Gallery, Saffron Walden during September and October.
The year end has also seen me participating in the Foxton Art Show on 19-21st November and the Christmas show at the Darryl Nantais Gallery in Linton.
I look forward to meeting you all in 2011.
